Green Card Voices (GCV) is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that shares first-person immigrant stories in order to foster tolerance and understanding between immigrant and nonimmigrant communities. As we move into a new reality with challenges facing immigrants specifically, a new approach towards developing young leadership is necessary. Thus, we created the book series “Green Card Youth Voices,” written by immigrant students from 35 countries, with accompanying first-person digital video narratives. This model is specifically designed to meet the needs of recently arrived immigrant students. In this presentation, you will learn about this book model and how the process directly empowers immigrant student authors through storytelling, writing, and public speaking. During the presentation, you will watch the first-person video narratives from several of these students.
